Los Altos Dog Park
Location: 821 Eubank NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112
This is my favorite dog park to play at! Not only is it in a very convenient location, it offers me all kinds of space to run around and play in! It is located right next to one of the baseball/softball fields at Los Altos Park (and also next to a Sonic, so I get to smell all the yummy food) on Eubank just south of Lomas. There are two sections to the dog park, and parking lots at both entrances so you’ll never have to walk far. There is also a third entrance in between two of the fields, so if you have a parent that plays sports but you’d rather play with your furrier friends, they can send you in through that entrance so they won’t have to walk all the way around the park.
One of the best things about this park is that there are lots of big trees to offer shade, and several benches and even a couple of picnic tables for all of the parents to hang out together while their four-legged kids go play. It’s mostly a mulch-type product as the flooring, but there’s quite a bit of grass as well. Poop bags are provided and there are several covered trash cans to throw them away once we’ve finished our business. There’s no water available, but there are several bowls and if you have your parent bring your own jug of water you can fill them up so everybody can rehydrate and continue their playtime.
The only downside to this park is that the fences are very short, so if you are a jumper you might want to look elsewhere or else make sure your parent is keeping a good eye on you! It’s also directly next to I-40, so be careful! The entrances are double-gated, so you will enter through one gate, close it behind you, and then once your mom or dad has removed your leash you can go through the other gate to play with all of your friends! I like this safety feature, as some of us (including myself) like to sneak through that first gate to meet any new pups that might be coming in to play. There is also a weather-proof bulletin board where you can find or post any pet-related things, including lost or found posters.
There are several regulars that go to this park, and everyone is really nice! There’s no real rule here about mixing and mingling sizes, just so long as everybody gets along. The park does follow regular city dog park rules, which means you do need to be up-to-date on your shots. If your parent is interested in more information on dog park etiquette, check out an article my mom wrote over on Yahoo!
Overall, I give this dog park two paws up and I hope to see everyone there!
